[Character name] Makoto Sako.

[Canon] Devil Survivor 2
[Point in time taken from canon] Start of Day 6.

[Background]
General info on the game and a link to Makoto's own wiki. The only information not listed there is the small amount of background she provides in her Fate Link scenes: basically, she had been a synchronized swimmer, but an accident soon robbed her of her dream. JP's gave her a place to belong and a purpose to uphold when she felt completely useless; this is the main reason why she feels so indebted to Yamato and the organization in general, and why she remains loyal despite her sometimes wavering conviction ( due to questioning the morality of their choices ). However, despite her hesitation when it comes to some aspects of JP's, she'll ultimately stay and aid them no matter what.

[Personality]

"My code won't allow me to betray them now...!"

At one point in the game, one of the characters in the main party refers to Makoto as almost painfully "perfect". This is a pretty good look into the way this JP's officer conducts herself around other people, as Makoto is generally almost always referred to as a "cold" individual or a very... well, business-oriented person. It's a pretty consistent analysis, and not a completely inaccurate one. Makoto does care about her work, and is completely focused most of the time. JP's purpose is her purpose, in order to repay the debt she owes them for giving her that purpose. That is true. The frigid, "perfect" assumptions about her, however, are not.

On the surface, Makoto is essentially what it says on the cover. She's an efficient worker and capable of taking control of a situation; she won't gently sidestep what she feels must be done in order to fix whatever it is she needs to fix, nor will she half-heartedly finish any of her missions. She tends to be curt, but not rude; in fact, many of her interactions are just courteous and professionally distant. While this can be taken as an example of Makoto's "cold" demeanor to those that don't know her, this is just an extension of her good manners. She won't sugarcoat or play out of the reality since in the end that's detrimental and she knows it, but she'll try her best to explain things and give orders as smoothly and empathetically as she can. She'll give respect where it's due and compliments when they are deserved. Ultimately, you can only assume she's cold and distant from your first initial interactions with her, since she's mostly working (and when she's working she's serious), but after a couple of times talking to her you'll probably see that there's something more than just a woman who knows how to get down to business.

Anyway, the transparency of this is mainly due to the fact Makoto doesn't even bother to hide the fact that she's more than just a serious woman; any unknown subjects that pop up about her aren't due to her trying to put on a facade, it's just due to a lack of opportunity or appropriateness of disclosure. She's actually very open with her own insecurities and problems if she feels it will benefit someone else--this is seen through Airi's interactions with her, where she quite easily tells the young girl her life story in order to aid with her own issues. This shows another side of Makoto's traits--her compassion. Makoto is kind, and she won't hesitate to show this kindness. This is evident even from her second appearance, where she sneaks Io, Daichi and Hiro into the JP's base under the pretence of interrogation ( lying outright to her Superior, though it was technically true ) to treat Io's sprained ankle. She later laments the fact she can't escort them to their destination personally. She's often putting herself in harm's way for civilians, even when JP's is seen as a selfish, uncaring organization by the public--their unrelenting judgement saddens her, but she doesn't hesitate to help them at all ( and for that they call her "different" than the rest of JP's, which she kind of is ). Makoto is very much someone who would prefer not to fight, but she acknowledges the necessities and abandons idealistic behaviour, since it's not befitting of a soldier.

However, even she has her reservations over her actions and sacrifices. There's a time in the game when she's torn between her loyalty and what she feels is right, and when the two conflict she finds she's very much lost. Makoto is a good person, and when she dedicates herself to something she... really can't find it in herself to leave so easily. Her main reason for following JP's is that both Yamato Hotsuin, it's leader, and the organization itself gave her something to strive for when she thought she had no purpose. As such, she's focused her entire life to trying to be someone for the good of JP's. Depending on the route you take, she comes to understand the fact that her loyalty was simply a shield from doing what she really thought was right, or that her loyalty is something that she can't betray. Her reservations remain in the latter route, but are not mentioned--her acceptance seems to come from the fact that, although they are wrong sometimes, their actions are necessary in order to reshape the world. If you face her in battle and call her out on this fact, she'll even state as such. It's not really a secret that that's how she feels, and she's not very good at hiding it.

Her dedication to the organization also translates to her social behaviour, which we don't see very much of. While she's capable of holding a conversation, most of her dealings with the party and most of what she talks about is business and purely business. It's not to say she's anti-social or unwilling to speak--her being is just so very focused around JP's and her purpose that she's not sure what she is outside of it. Call it a bit of unhealthy dependency, which she either grows out of or learns to accept depending on the route the Protagonist takes. Either way, though, Makoto is simply pleasant, polite, and a bit of a "big sister" type the rare times you talk to her outside of her professional interactions. She'll listen to your problems and help you through it, encouraging you in a gentle way. Probably wouldn't have expected that from her, but at the same time it's not that big of a surprise. She's easily flustered, too--mention that she might have a thing for Hiro. Try it. She'll freak out internally and tell you to move on with the mission because what are you saying that's not right at all.

In summary, Makoto is the kind of soldier that can wear her heart on her sleeve while still being completely capable of throwing it aside, and, while she'd like to throw away her doubts completely to best serve JP's, she has her reservations and doubts. She's the kind big-sister type that will tell you that she's a friend while being the soldier that will remark she will "crush you" for the good of JP's unless you surrender, as much as she doesn't want to. At her core Makoto is a good person with loyalty that runs far too deep and morals that sometimes clash with what her duty is.

She'd always sooner save than kill, though.

[Abilities]

Makoto's main abilities link to her proficiency on using the Demon Summoning Application on her phone, which does pretty much what the name describes. The basic interface involves a variety of functions, which include an Auction to buy more demons, the Cathedral of Shadows to fuse demons together to create even stronger demons, and a Compendium to summon demons previously obtained. The summoning application has a limit, however; it can only hold a set number of demons, and only two can be summoned actively at a time (for the sake of the game, however, Makoto will only be bringing two since the hero is the only one to ever make use of all dem demons, and the disconnect with the Nicaea server means she can't receive anything else, anyway). These are ones she's seen with in her interactions in the later DAY 7, but they're her consistent set so I'll be making use of them:

KRESNIK
COMMAND
Mighty Hit
PASSIVE
Force Amp
RACE
True Phantasm

HECATE
COMMAND
Diarahan
PASSIVE
Pierce
RACE
Tyranny

Some of these skills will be nerfed in order to avoid overpowering her: Diarahan, for example, will not provide a full heal as it does in game, but only provide minor healing. True Phantasm, while it provides teleportation in game, will also be deactivated.

Makoto herself also has personal skills she can utilize. She will only be receiving a small portion of her set, however, to avoid overpowering her. Her stat spread is an offensive one: the majority of her growth goes towards Magic and Strength, with an emphasis on strength. She has the following abilities:

COMMAND
Hassohappa
PASSIVE
Life Surge

[Other important stuff]
Makoto's summoning app also allows her to use DEATH CLIPS, which are pretty much just fancy youtube videos that foretell when someone close to you is going to die, or something. Due to her disconnect from the Nicaea server, however, this function and all functions connected to her phone (minus her "active demons") will be deactivated for the duration of her stay.

[Sample post]
[First Person]

If you were to describe yourself in one sentence, what would that be?
I can't say I wasn't expecting a question like this... In essence, I am a soldier.

Someone comes to you to ask for the time. How would you respond?
[ . . . ? isn't that a rather easy question? ] Give them the time. Is there something specific that you wanted to hear? The question seems a bit simple.

Do you stand up against authority, go against all odds, and if you could, pierce the heavens with your fighting spirit? If not, would you if you could?
. . . Pierce the heavens? [ the phrasing is a little bit funny to her, but the nature of the question is still the same. there's a pause before she speaks again. ] . . . It depends on what we're aiming for, but I will see everything through to the end.

Would you consider yourself a hero or a villain? Why? Neither is an option as well, but still tell why.
[ a hero... is what she'd like to say, but there's no way she can, not with the way she's been handling things. ] How I see myself is irrelevant. There's only what I have to do.

[ sounding just the slightest bit displeased with that answer, but it's said. ]

You're asked to take someone out for a date. Do you agree? If so, describe what you would do. If not, tell why.
W-what does this kind of question have to do with anything? It seems different than the other ones. [ sorry, what were you saying? this is a bit too forward for her tastes. ] Besides, I don't have the time to consider something like that . . .

You are a given a mission. Would you complete it effectively or would you goof off and do something else? Expand a little on the response.
Effectively, and as quickly as I can. There's no time to dawdle.

[Third Person]

It's almost strange how used to the calm Makoto was. She was used to demons, to fighting, to directing... but here she had done nothing but wander, collect information, and lay passive for an exit that may not even exist. Her idleness gives her both comfort and confusion--while the peace was nice ( even if she was slightly apprehensive, for any place like this had to have some hidden side ), she still was not sure what to do with herself.

It's funny, almost, how she thinks it was easier when she first arrived. All she had to do was adapt and scout. All things she was familiar and efficient in. Adapting was what she did best, after all--for her, it often meant the difference between life and death...

Now, Makoto wonders if maybe she adapted a bit too well. The walking down the streets, the lack of Demon Summoning, fighting, or Septentriones. The only reason she pulls out her phone is to see if anything has changed; it's never to summon a demon anymore. Nowadays she wonders if she's become obsessed with work, in a self-deprecating way.

... Of course, she doesn't have time to think on that. It seemed her earlier assumption of things was right, as she comes across the field of... rather angry looking scarecrows. Demons? She almost pauses at the ridiculousness and timing of the suddenly turning field of... opponents? before she realizes that, yes, this really was a field of angry scarecrows looking at her.

It's with no further hesitation that she reaches into her coat and whips out her phone, as she always had.

Adapting was what she did best.

[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] Ahh, well, I've always been interested in Somarium's premise, and the cast here seems to be very good! Also, Makoto herself seems like an easy way to ease myself in the game--she's not social by any means but she's also not anti-social, and is in many ways quite balanced with her interactions. There's also a lot of development available RE: her uncertainties with her position in JP's!
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] Being active... There's no game without activity, after all.
[Where did you hear about Somarium?] A while ago from a friend.
[Do you need a promo code?] Nope!
[Any questions?] I'm good.
